With bills to pay, groceries to buy, and other expenses to cover, most checking accounts see a lot of activity. It’s easy to lose track of exactly where your balance stands. Rockland Federal Credit Union offers several ways for our members to avoid hefty overdraft fees and to ensure that all their checking payments go through.
Transfer from Savings
- Funds will automatically be transferred from your RFCU savings account to cover checking account shortfalls
- This service is free
- To enroll, contact us at [email protected], call (800)562-7328, or stop into your local branch
Overdraft Line of Credit
- Apply for a line of credit that RFCU will automatically access to cover checking overdrafts
- There’s no fee when we access your credit line, but you’ll be subject to interest charges, just as you would with any revolving line
- To apply, call (800)562-7328, visit your local branch, or get started by filling out a line of credit application
Tips for Avoiding Overdraft Fees
How can you keep your checking balance from dipping below zero? Here are some suggestions:
Direct Deposit
Having your paycheck, Social Security benefits, or other recurring income source automatically deposited in your account is a good way to manage your checking balance. You won’t need to find time to get to the credit union to deposit a paper check. Plus, direct deposit is available immediately, while funds from paper checks can take a day or more to become available.
Online Banking
Online Banking gives you a full view of your account activity and balance information. You can log in any time, day or night, to see your balance information, what payments have cleared, which are pending, and more. Enroll in online banking.
Mobile Banking
With account information at your fingertips, you’ll always be in control of your finances. Check balances and transaction history. Make transfers between accounts. And schedule text alerts that will let you know if your funds are running low. Learn more about mobile banking.
Text Alerts
Set up text alerts so you can be notified when your account balance is low, or when a large transaction clears your account. A brief message will be sent via text to your phone, and you’ll be in the know. Find out about text alerts.
